Save our Tallawahs

Published:Friday | January 11, 2019 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I implore both the Government of Jamaica and the private sector to do what is necessary to #SaveOurTallawahs.

While I fully understand the financial limitations, I firmly believe that an aggressive and forthright investment in the franchise will result in long-term benefits for the country. And it's notable that the team itself is actually very good. After all, they have won the competition twice (inaugural winners in 2013).

Jamaica's cricketing pedigree is revered worldwide. Are we not the nation of George Headley, Michael Holding, Jeffrey Dujon, Courtney Walsh, etc? Do we not claim to be a sporting powerhouse in spite of our small size? Is the name of the franchise, 'Tallawahs', not indicative of the very nature of Jamaicans?

Let us collectively work on a solution that will not only save the franchise, but will generate economic benefits for all. It can be done. It must be done!
